How to Celebrate Thanksgiving Away from Home

Posted On November 26, 2014

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and some travel nurses and therapists won’t be able to make it home. It may be their first time, or some of them have already got used to it. You may find yourself in a different city, a different country or a totally different state during this joyous, but this shouldn’t hinder you in getting into the holiday’s spirit. Celebrate Thanksgiving wherever you are with the following simple ways:

  1. Connect with your family

You may not be able to wine and dine with the folks, but you can still enjoy dinner with them. Set up a video call during Thanksgiving dinner. Though you can’t have any of their turkey, you can still enjoy the talks and laughs with the family.

  1. Find time with your friends who won’t be heading home

As the saying goes, “Misery loves company.” Ask your colleagues and friends to have a get together. Chances are, you’re not the only one away from home during Thanksgiving. Together with your friends, you can have a Thanksgiving dinner of your own.

  1. Create new traditions

Who says celebrating Thanksgiving should be limited to a turkey dinner at home? We are not bound by traditional obligations, everyone can have their own Thanksgiving tradition as long as it stays true to the meaning of the occasion – gratefulness for the blessings we have.

  1. Don’t stress yourself over the holiday

Never let the idea of spending Thanksgiving away from home get you down. Remember the spirit of the holiday, embrace what you have now and sadness won’t even be an issue to discuss.

However you spend the day without your family, make sure you enjoy your day. Eat plenty, have some drinks, chat with people whom you hold dear.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
