Government Nursing Jobs

Looking for an exciting healthcare opportunity in the VA, Military or other Government sites?  Cirrus Medical Staffing has been serving Government healthcare facilities since 2003 and offers a myriad of contractual opportunities at Government facilities located throughout the entire United States.

All qualified healthcare candidates are encouraged to sign up for our Government Nurse, Allied, and Therapy Job opportunities, which change frequently.  Please check our website Job postings and look for VA Hospitals, VA Clinics, Military Healthcare Facilities, Military clinics and Indian Health Facilities in the title of the Job posting.  Existing Cirrus contractors are routinely notified of Government Nurse openings and are also encouraged to check for these postings on a regular basis, if interested.  Opportunities arise at federally owned entities regularly.

Though all qualified professionals are welcomed to apply and are considered equally for employment, we encourage those healthcare professionals who have previous government healthcare experience, Veterans of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy, as well as current military personnel making the transition to civilian employment to apply.  EOE/AA

GOVERNMENT / MILITARY OPENINGS
Frequently Asked Questions

Requirements:
You MUST be a United States Citizen and possess a current license to practice in your profession (should licensure be required).  In addition, you must be willing to submit to a full and complete background check through the government.

1.  Where are these opportunities located?
Cirrus Medical Staffing, operating under a Federal Supply Schedule through The Department of Veterans Affairs, holds a national contract for Veteran Administration Hospitals, Military Hospitals, Indian Reservations and other Federally funded clinics throughout the entire United States.  We have longstanding business relationships with Federal Government Departments.

2.  Must I possess a State License in the state the hospital / base exists?

In most cases, you only need to have a current, unrestricted license in to practice your job in one of the fifty states or US territories; however, some government entities will require a license in the state of the facility location.  Your recruiter will gladly share this information with you upfront.

3.  How stringent is the working environment?

It's most usually no different than working for civilian hospitals or clinics.  The VA, military, and Indian Health systems have a care delivery program that will most likely be a bit different from what you're accustomed to working; however, the outcomes are desirable.  The bottom line is that these healthcare institutions have practice standards that are tried and true.  You won't enter and redefine their practices, so you must be able to adapt to the differences.  In the fact that it's a government facility, their rules are their rules and you must be flexible and adept enough to remain on the assignment.  The personalities and professionalism of those you work with is exceptional!!

4.  What types of openings exist in these government facilities?
Registered Nurses of all specialties, LPN's, Radiology (all modalities), Sonographers, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Surgical Technologists, Respiratory Therapists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants, and other healthcare specialty positions.

5.  How long does it take to get an interview and approved for a job, from the time I apply?

Governmental interview processes can sometimes be lengthy due to required approval standards, which are fielded through a number of departments and cut off dates.  On average, it takes about 2-3 weeks to receive approval from their required candidate submission date.  In other cases, facilities place bids out to approved healthcare staffing firms and do not even start the approval process to interview until after all paperwork is received on an established cutoff date.  After awarding the bid to a selected firm (which creates the best value for the facility and who has a qualified candidate), approval to hire a contracted candidate will then take place.  In many cases, there will be more paperwork required upfront to be submitted for consideration.

6.  How long are these contracts?

Contracts can be anywhere between 8 weeks to one or more years and prove to be quite satisfying.

7.  Tell me about the criminal background check process.
Government entities require a criminal background check that is independent of what the staffing company requires.  This means you'll most likely be required to have two criminal background checks.  One for the staffing firm, as required by The Joint Commission, and another highly detailed criminal background check by the government.

8.  How can I find out about openings in locations that I'm interested in?
Cirrus updates our openings on our website daily.  By noon of each work day, our orders are refreshed online and government positions will be noted in the job title, by category (VA, Military, VA clinic, Military Clinic, etc.).

9.  What if I can't get you all of the required paperwork before the established deadline?
Then you can't be submitted for the position.  The government’s deadlines are concrete and Cirrus has the obligation to meet all established deadlines in order to fulfill our contractual obligations to the government.  You either meet their schedule or you don't.  Please be responsible and allow yourself the time to respond to paperwork requests promptly.  Though effective, the candidate submission process to a government facility is lengthy and precise.  Your recruiter will tell you each facility's paperwork requirement and the due date.  Please note that submissions are TIME MARKED.  This means that if the candidates must be sent to them by 12:00 noon EST on a particular date, then at 12:01pm you cannot be considered if your profile, along with all required paperwork, is not submitted to the facility.

10.  Will I have to undergo this process with each government facility I apply for?
The process will be the same; however, once we have your paperwork and other required process criteria; you're updated for a one year period.  This means once you work for one government entity, getting into others for other contracts is highly likely and quickly expedited.  If a traveler is VetPro qualified (for VA hospitals only), then a distinct advantage is created to expedite the traveler’s hire process.  VetPro is designed to reduce resource utilization through data and technology to verify credentials.  This process ensures consistency of the credentialing process.  Once VetPro qualified, your credentials are contained within the VA healthcare system, which is beneficial for interviewing and hiring purposes at any VA facility.
